Every February, Mario Bros. Tacos begins selling “Corazón de Tacos,” heart-shaped containers filled with an assortment of the eatery’s well-regarded street tacos. A bit more savory than the run-of-the-mill box o’ chocolates, the special bundle is not a set arrangement — neighbors can specify protein choices and tortilla preferences.

Meat options include the house special trompo, bistec, tripas, al pastor, chicken, barbacoa, campechano (tromo and bistec) and chorizo. Vegetarian filling is available as well. The tacos come with the customer’s choice of onions, cilantro, lime and green or red salsa.

Neighbors can choose two sides, with charro beans, rice, jalapeno poppers and french fries available. The bundle also includes two Jarritos and a Gansito snack cake.

Mario Bros. — which is actually a father-son partnership, believe it or not — has been in Lake Highlands for close to a decade and specializes in tacos de trompo. In addition to their tacos, the business sells specialty hamburgers, hot dogs and tortas.

Payment is required before pickup, and preorders are recommended as supplies are limited.
