Richardson ISD is monitoring weather conditions for later this week as an arctic cold snap looks poised to bring snow to the Dallas area.
The National Weather Service has forecasted 3-6 inches of snowfall north of I-20 for Thursday as temperatures plummet across North Texas. City of Dallas departments are preparing cold weather responses across the city, including the Office of Homeless Solutions.
Of course, some of the biggest questions (aside from those for ONCOR) concern school closures around the Metroplex. Dallas ISD has updated parents on closure communications and said it will be “monitoring athletic events and extracurricular activities for this week.” Ahead of the storm, RISD is taking similar steps to prepare families for potential school closures.
In a release, RISD said:
The safety of our students and staff is a priority if inclement weather is predicted or occurs during the school day. Several RISD departments (Transportation, Facilities, Grounds) stand ready to assess the condition of the roads and school facilities should ice and/or snow make travel to or from RISD schools hazardous.
Ultimately, the decision will rest with RISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum. If classes are canceled, parents will be notified by 5 a.m. via telephone, email, or text message. Families can also check the district’s social media pages.
