If you couldn’t make it out to any of the stops on the White Rock Lake Artists’ Studio Tour, there’s a neighborhood event offering the same behind-the-scenes access to local artists.
The Third Annual Lake Highlands Art Tour will take place this weekend. All in one location, as opposed to the Studio Tour, the LHAT is being hosted in the home of local artist David Schulze, who says the event offers neighbors an opportunity to connect with local artists and understand their process.
“We feel that it’s important for the city to realize that there are creative people right next door,” Schulze said.
Schulze said that he has participated in art tours around the city, and was inspired to create LHAT in response to a lack of anything comparable in Lake Highlands.
The free event runs from noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Six artists — Schulze, Nancy Bateman, Annie Adams, Laurie Martineau, Brenda McKinney and Mary Tomlinson — will be on hand to discuss their creative decisions and inspirations. Works of varying stages of completion will be available for neighbors to see the process that goes into a gallery-level piece. The Lake Highlands Art Tour is being hosted at 9526 Viewside Drive.
