This Saturday, the Lake Highlands Family YMCA is hosting a back-to-school fair with an emphasis on mental well-being.

From 1-4 p.m. at the Lake Highlands Family YMCA, families can receive health screenings, wellness tips and nutrition advice from local health professionals. Offering what a press release called “practical approaches to mental wellbeing,” the event will combine activities and education to prepare area youth for the 2024-25 school year.

Representatives and materials from Parkland Health, Children’s Health, UT Southwestern’s The Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care, Texas Health, Crossroads Community Services Dallas, and Methodist Dallas will be available to provide information on mental and physical well-being.

Physical fitness and nutrition will also be addressed at the event. According to the release, raffle games, pickeball, beginner-friendly Zumba and yoga classes, nutrition education, healthy snacks and samples of fresh salads will all be available. There will also be a food truck.

A UT Southwestern physician will provide physicals from 1 – 3 p.m.
