Allie + Bess, a woman-owned local jewelry business, is hosting a back-to-school backpack drive for the children of Genesis Women’s Shelter. From now until July 19, neighbors can drop off backpacks and school supplies at Allie + Bess’s office at 11882 Greenville Avenue. Monetary donations are also accepted through Genesis’s website

The supplies will be dropped off at the shelter before the start of the semester. While the supplies generally go to children in the program, any extras will be donated to community partners.

“Shining a light on Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support is a cause very close to our hearts,” said Allie Wardlaw, co-founder of Allie + Bess, in a press release. “As mothers, we understand the importance of a safe and supportive environment for our children. Our partnership with Genesis allows us to extend this care to women and children who need it the most, reaffirming our commitment to making a positive impact in our community.”

Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support is a 501 (c) (3) organization which has provided emergency housing, placement, occupational therapy, counseling and pro bono legal aid to victims of domestic violence since 1985.
