Dallas Animal Services is extending its hours tomorrow to commemorate the longest day of the year, the summer solstice.

DAS’s main adoption facility in West Dallas will remain open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 20. Normal Thursday hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“We’re really excited about extending our hours on this date so more people will be able to come by and meet our pets,” said Mary Martin, Assistant Director of DAS, in a press release. “When people actually walk through our shelter and get to interact with our wonderful animals, they can’t help but fall in love.”

There are no adoption fees at this time. All pets leave the DAS facility spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. A free veterinary exam at any VCA location is included with adoption.

The initiative is a part of DAS’s wider Dallas90 community engagement campaign. Dallas90 seeks to increase incidences of positive outcomes for “all healthy and behaviorally sound pets,” which DAS estimates to represent around 90% of its shelter population.

The main DAS shelter is located at 1818 North Westmoreland Road
