The squad earned first place for their Team Veracruz, first place for their Ladies’ Las Amarillas routine, second for their Team Yucatan, third for their Team Jalisco and second for Team Sinaloa-Nayarit Cuadro — a ten-minute dancing routine.

When it came time for solo competition, freshman Leah Pomales Catala, dancing as a beginner, earned third place for her Michoacan Solo — with one judge awarding her an almost perfect score. Team captain Isabel Diaz, dancing in the intermediate category, took second. Top honors went to Diaz and senior Lila Garces, who won first place with their Sinaloa Duet.

LHHS students have competed in this contest for the five years, but this was the first year Wildcat dancers have won solo medals.

“I’m beyond grateful to be the director of these wonderful kids,” said Lydia Corwin, who also serves as assistant director for the Wildcat Wranglers. “Words cannot express how thrilled the team and I are.”
