Reggie Baker, owner of Lake Highlands Automotive died from a sudden heart attack on Friday, February 2.

A 2018 Advocate feature described Baker as “a constant in our ever-evolving neighborhood.” He graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 1969, marrying his high school sweetheart, Tanya. He started his automotive career at 17, pumping gas at Texaco.

In 1989, he purchased the station himself. His two sons, Jordon and Jared, worked there for him until he was given the opportunity to buy Lake Highlands Automotive in 2003.

“He was my closest friend,” describes his son, Jordon Baker. “We’ve worked together for over twenty years.”

When his father passed, Jordon chose not to break stride.

“We all came to work on Monday, that’s how Reg would have wanted it,” he says. “I could count on one hand how many days he’s missed in the last 50 years.”

A memorial service is planned for at Casa View Assembly of God, tomorrow morning, February 17 at 11 a.m. The service is open to the public, who are encouraged to donate to nonprofit ministry, Teen Life Challenge, which Baker was involved with.
