As the historic theater’s newsletter notes, “he’s playing all your favorite songs.”

Miller is still a member of the the rock quartet Old 97’s, with which he made a name for himself, according to the newsletter. Then he revealed an introspective side with his acclaimed 2002 solo debut The Instigator. His second solo record, The Believer,  took “its predecessor’s achievements several steps further, with a dozen deeply-felt, craftily melodic tunes that demonstrate the Texas-bred artist’s knack for using accessible songcraft to address complex emotional issues.”

“The songs on The Believer are about sex, war, love and death … but mostly sex,” Miller said in product description. “Before going into the studio, I thought I’d be making a punk rock Ziggy Stardust, but I wound up with George Gershwin does T. Rex’s The Slider.

According to Treble music magazineThe Believer had a few tracks that resembled the Old 97’s, and writer Ernest Simpson in 2006 called it a “pop gem.”

Here we are in 2023 with a chance to get up close with the Lake Highlands-bred legend performing a solid mix from all of the above. Doors open at 7 and Spencer is on at 8.
