Lake Highlands High School athletes Ellie Jordan and Samson Aletan have been nominated Texas Student Athletes of the Year. Winners will receive the $1,000 Letterman to Leaders scholarship from 2Words Character Development.
Jordan plays volleyball and throws shot put for the Wildcats, and sports is the family business. Her dad became head football coach and athletic coordinator at LHHS when she was in the fourth grade, and he and wife, Laura, are her biggest cheerleaders. Jordan sings in Espree and earned a spot on the All-State Choir. She’ll attend Hardin-Simmons University in the fall.
Aletan plays basketball for the Cats, ranked number one in the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC). At 6-foot-9, he’s the highest-rated recruit in Yale men’s basketball history. He took up basketball about the time his beloved father, a Nigerian immigrant, died of a heart attack. Aletan is active in DECA, a student organization preparing emerging leaders in business and marketing.
2Words Character Development is a 36-week, video-based curriculum designed for coaches and written for secondary athletes across all sports. If Jordan and/or Aletan win, LHHS will receive curriculum to share with campus students.
Voting is open now, and you may vote as many times as you’d like online here. There are about 70 names on each page, so you’ll need to scroll down to find Ellie Jordan at #56 and Samson Aletan at #51.
Go Cats!
