Author, journalist, pastor and Lake Highlands dad Mark Wingfield will launch his new book, Honestly: Telling the Truth About the Bible and Ourselves, Thursday night at the Audelia Road Library.
Published by Fortress Press, the book explores biblical truth on topics such as creation, race, climate change, evolution, liars in the Bible and the truth-telling of the prophets. According to the publisher’s website, “Wingfield points to a lack of real truthfulness that plagues America in both politics and religion today. We are shouting well-worn sound bites at each other from opposing platforms. Precious few of us are willing to step in the middle and facilitate dialogue, and those poor souls who do often get shot down from both sides. Rampant self interest can lead to supporting lies and holding tight to particular stances that are not aligned with the Bible’s ethics of justice and love.”
Wingfield serves as executive director and publisher of Baptist News Global. He recently served 17 years as associate pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church, and, prior to that, he spent 21 years in denominational journalism. He is the author of Why Churches Need to Talk about Sexuality. He and wife Alison are the parents of two LHHS graduates.
Honestly is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org and other outlets for about $23. You’ll enjoy refreshments and a signed copy for $20 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26.
