There have been delays in bringing electric scooters back to Dallas, but a return is set for next year.
Scooters will have a higher presence in certain neighborhoods in our city, including Vickery Meadow, Oak Cliff and part of Pleasant Grove. Some will also be distributed in Deep Ellum, Uptown and Downtown.
Lower income areas with less access to public transit would be prioritized, as the city describes them as “equity opportunity zones.”
The scooters would come from three vendors — Bird, Lime and Superpedestrian — according to The Dallas Morning News. Initially, about 1,500 scooters would roll out to the public.
A ban on the scooters was put in place in 2020 due to safety concerns and a return was announced for October, but that was postponed.
When the scooters do make their return, new safety rules will be in place. They won’t be allowed on sidewalks, public parks, plazas or roads with a speed limit above 35 mph.
