The Lake Highlands High School men’s wrestling team has a long history of winning district championships and earning their way to the state tournament. This year’s women’s team is determined to hang their own championship banner from the rafters of the school gym.
I wouldn’t bet against them.
LH women are currently ranked 8th in the state behind powerhouse schools like Allen, The Woodlands and San Antonio Churchill. Senior Fernanda Lopez earned All-American honors with a 7th place finish at nationals last year after winning 4th in the state tournament. She’s currently ranked #1 in Texas, and teammate Katherine Salinas is ranked #7. Sarah Conner finished first in last week’s Rumble at Rockwall tournament, known for drawing fierce competition from all over the metroplex.
You can catch both strong teams in upcoming matches. The men will compete at Frisco Memorial – JV all day Friday, and varsity all day Saturday. The Texas Women’s Classic at Lewisville High will host the Lady Cats Friday and Saturday. The City Championships begin at 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at LHHS for men’s and women’s teams.
Men’s team members are Roberto Lopez (ranked 6th in Texas), Logan Lusignan (ranked #10), Cayden Byrd, Ryan Conner, Ian Garcia, Anthony Gonzalez, Abdul Hashimi, Jackson Hickman, Case Legg, Everett Long, Isaam Mohmood, Micah Smith, Mohammad Zabihullah and Vaughn Zuffoletti.
Lady Cats are Sarah Conner, Zoe Cooper, Dissaya Corimer, Clarissa Duarte, AriAsia Fisher, Bryanna Johnson, Admiria Jones, Chanel Kofa, Fernanda Lopez, Kai Murphy, Johnny Qvam, Alejha Reda and Katherine Salinas. Go Cats.
