Have you ever wanted to be part of something bigger? This holiday season you can join forces with 100 Women of Lake Highlands, Exchange Club of Lake Highlands and Knights of Columbus 799 in their Packs4LH project to send students home for Thanksgiving break with healthy food for their families.
The concept is simple – volunteers will fill backpacks with donated food (or food purchased in bulk using cash donations) and give them to students at Stults Road Elementary. Stults hosts 625 kids in grades pre-k through 6, with 75% living at or near the poverty level. For some, the free or reduced-price meals eaten at school are the week’s only nutrition. When schools close for the holidays, these kids go hungry.
If you’d like to help, you may log in online to make a financial contribution or roll up your sleeves tonight/Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Stults Road Elementary to join packing volunteers. You’ll make some child’s Turkey Day especially sweet.
