If this rezoning application is approved, the Extended Stay America hotel on the north side of Vantage Point, west of Greenville Avenue, would become a multifamily complex, according to a notice from District 10 Adam McGough’s office.

“This is an important zoning case with the potential to impact the quality of life of surrounding neighbors and the overall safety of the entire community,” McGough notes. “The Extended Stay America hotel that occupies the site currently has for years been characterized by violent crime, and in April 2022, the property was designated a Habitual Criminal Property.”

As McGough told us in an interview for the October cover story, engaging the neighborhood in these sorts of conversations is vital to creating more quality affordable housing throughout the city. To that end, a meeting is happening at the Forest Green Library Tuesday Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

“This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions,” according to the D10 newsletter.

McGough says before the case appears again on Dallas City Council’s agenda on December 14, 2022, he wants to ensure all community stakeholders are engaged and have the opportunity to provide feedback.

Highlights of the case include:

The subject site is approximately 2.881 acres with a hotel as the current use. According to a city records the hotel has a total of 136 rooms in 70,828 square feet of floor area.

The site is currently zoned an MC-4 Multiple Commercial District which does not allow the multifamily use. The applicant proposes the adaptive reuse of the existing hotel building into a multifamily complex.

The proposed MU-3(A) Mixed Use District would allow for the multifamily use.

The zoning application is available here. The council member invites neighbors to reach out to his office with questions.
