CORRECTION: The school’s budget has not been cut. It is the school’s PTA that has faced budget cuts.

The Charger Partners, the school’s PTA, budget hasn’t been able to raise as much in previous years. So, in absence of the Market in the Meadow, they are asking neighbors for help with fundraising.

“With the addition of the 6th grade comes the need for an increase in staff training, extra-curricular opportunities for students, as well as PTA funded disbursement opportunities and requests. All of which will be necessary to ensure a successful transition for the tweens in our community,” Chargers Partners states in their campaign packet.

However, Richardson ISD has broken ground on a construction project to improve and expand the school with 6th grade starting in 2024. An increased school budget is anticipated to accommodate extra expenses from the expansion, according to Richardson ISD.

The Charger Partners also further detail what the fundraiser does in place of Market in the Meadow:

The FMJH PTA historically operates from funds raised by Market in the Meadow. Sadly, due to the pandemic, we were not able to host that event for the past two years and now with construction constraints, we are looking at another two years of limitations causing a significant deficit in our PTA budget. In efforts to combat that deficit, Charger Partners is transitioning from an underwriting model to a full-on check writing campaign! The campaign will kick off on August 15, 2022, at the Back-to-School Charger Round-Up and run through October 15, 2022. We NEED your help to exceed our efforts of $39,500 in 2021 and reach our goal of $75,000 in 2022!

Donations fund many important initiatives including:

  • AVID College Field Trips Foreign Language Programs Community in Schools Program
  • Student Council National Junior Honor Society Athletics Fine Arts Instructional Coaching TOPS Peer Mediators
  • Community in Schools Program is in need, which Charger Partners’ donations will support (i.e., backpacks, clothing, toiletries, weekend food bags, tutoring, bus passes).
