The storm chasing videographer at WX Chasing — where Brandon Clement travels the globe in pursuit of Mother Nature’s wrath — posted video this morning of overnight flooding in Dallas.
Video taken near I-30 and Central Expressway shows cars underwater, people swimming in the streets, first responders at work and traffic backed-up for days. Vehicles parked on the streets of Downtown and Deep Ellum are buried to the windows, recycle bins and traffic signs are floating. The neighborhood just south of Baylor Scott and White Hospital is a rushing river. Common Desk and other businesses on Commerce faced threat of flooding but appear to be in tact.
The storm chasers at WX say in company literature that their goal is to the “tell the story through our lens” and add a little commentary on big events. They say they do attempt to help when possible, from pulling someone from a stuck vehicle or bringing food to folks during disasters and participating in fundraising efforts.
Meanwhile, several parks also are flooded, according to Dallas Park and Recreation Department. Visit Dallasparks.org for a list of closures. And teachers in Vickery Meadow have reported flooding in the halls.
Dallas Police today continue to warn residents and travelers of the risks of driving during a flash flood warning, although I doubt the police’s #turnarounddontdrown hashtag could deliver a more effective warning than Clement’s team.
Police have posted specific intersections around the city that are especially high risk.
