During a scroll through social media, I stumbled upon a post linking to a story in D about Chadwick Murray, the late frontman of Bastards of Soul.
The post was in the Lake Highlands Alumni Group on Facebook and shared by Glenn Gantt, one of Murray’s former classmates. In the caption, Gantt notes that Murray was a class of 1994 LHHS alum who was also in a cappella choir.
Of course, I went to look this up myself. It’s right there on his old LinkedIn profile and also on a few other pages. He attended the school from 1991-1994.
The late singer died back in September, which brought the band to a difficult point in their journey.
I was just listening to the band’s first album, Spinnin’, for the first time a week ago after reading about the next album in one of the other Advocate neighborhoods’ post. That was shortly after the second and final album, Corners was announced.
By that time up until this morning, I knew of Murray and Bastards of Soul’s connections to East Dallas and Oak Cliff, but no clue Murray had any ties to Lake Highlands.
Corners was released on Mar. 11 and can be found on streaming services or purchased online.
