Several students helped kick off the launch of Lake Highlands Elementary Diversity and Inclusion Parent Education program with a virtual reading and discussion of the book Let’s Talk About Race by Julius Lester.

In a seven-minute video posted on YouTube Wednesday, students and LHE librarian Gabby Brown take turns reading the book and sharing facts about themselves over Zoom.

The Diversity and Inclusion Parent Education night will start tonight at 5:30 in the LHE cafeteria and cover the importance of RISD’s Bilingual Program and ways to increase diversity and inclusion across campus. Childcare and translation services will be available.

The 2008 book, illustrated by Karen Barbour, is Lester’s telling of what makes each person special.
