The Dallas Office of Homeless Solutions wants folks to forego street donations and give to homeless shelters this season.
Though it is indeed the season for giving, shelters provide more free resources for those struggling with homelessness. During the winter, demand is greaterĀ for such resources, including pillows, blankets and clothes.
So, why not give to people on the street asking for donations?
āThough intentions are good, street charity encourages people experiencing homelessness to remain on the streets rather than seek help from a homeless service provider,” Christine Crossley, Director of the Office of Homeless Solutions, told the City in a statement. āVolunteering and or donating to the shelters is much more sustainable and beneficial for our residentsā housing needs.ā
Local Dallas shelters that could use some help can be found under homeless solutions resources on the City of Dallas site.
