A fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Legends of Lake Highlands apartment complex where one firefighter was injured trying to rescue a resident.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 9:23 a.m. on East Lake Highlands Drive where smoke was coming from a two-story apartment building, according to the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department.
Four people, including three residents and the firefighter, suffered injuries. All but one were taken to the hospital. The firefighter was trying to rescue a woman from the fire when he fell from a ladder and was taken to a local hospital but is expected to recover from his injuries.
Four apartment units were damaged in the fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, but investigators found that the fire started in a first-floor kitchen.
