Chad Woolery, a Lake Highlands neighbor who was the superintendent of Dallas Public Schools, died Sept. 11; he was 77.

According to the obituary, Woolery died peacefully.

Woolery was born in Denver, Colorado, in November 1943. He was an accomplished athlete who graduated high school as an All-American in football and held state records in track & field. He received an athletic scholarship to attend Abilene Christian University, where he studied history and education and met his wife, Patsy. Woolery graduated in 1967.

After teaching and coaching for one year at Irving ISD, Woolery transferred to Dallas ISD and spent 28 years there. He served as the principal of W.T. White High School from 1982-1986 and became the superintendent of Dallas Public Schools 1993. Woolery kept that position until he retired in 1996.

Woolery is survived by his wife, Patsy; daughter, Wendy; son, Mark, and wife, Sarah; grandchildren Adam, Jack, Samuel, Noah, Eli and Lily; and his brother, Steve.
