Staff at local assisted living facility The Villages of Lake Highlands will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Visiting Nurse Association shared this news in partnership with the living facility Sept. 1, stating that these measures would ensure the safety of caregivers and protect the older adults in their care. The association and facility are following in the footsteps of other health systems and hospitals that have made similar requirements for staff, the VNA shared.

Those living at the facility are less able to fight off breakthrough cases and potential infections, said Chelsea Sneed, CCO of The Javelin Group, which owns Villages of Lake Highlands, making a vaccination mandate the best course of action.

Staff must be vaccinated by Oct. 1 to continue caring at any VNA locations, president and CEO Katherine Krause shared.

Currently, a majority of staff at The Villages of Lake Highlands located off Lullwater Drive have already been vaccinated, according to the organization.
