Miley Cyrus belts “Party in the USA” from overhead speakers. Colorful Andy Warhol-esque prints line dining room walls. Graffiti embellishes the bathrooms. Wok Star Chinese has gone all-in with their rock-and-roll theme.
Wok Star, now open in the former Nazca space at The Hill shopping center at Walnut Hill and 75, began offering takeout and third-party delivery in April. They quietly opened the dining room in late May while training staff and perfecting their menu. Their official start date is July 19.
Wok Star’s look may be American modern, but their menu is strictly traditional Chinese. Hand-made dumplings and hand-pulled La Mian noodles highlight the offerings, along with appetizers like crab rangoons, lettuce wraps and scallion pancakes. Hand-made dumplings and bao buns are steamed to perfection, and dishes such as Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Moo Shu Pork top the entrees. Chocolate chip cookie dough egg rolls and chocolate hazelnut buns tempt for dessert.
Wok Star’s four-sided bar offers a variety of sake and Chinese beer. Craft cocktails include the Uptown Funk, with Plantation Rum, Don Q Cristal, Blood Orange Liqueur, lime and pineapple, the I’m Too Sexy, with Deep Eddy Lime, Malibu Watermelon, lime soda, grenadine and Sour Patch Kids, and the Moves Like Jagger, with Woodford Reserve bourbon, Barrows Intense Ginger Liqueur, orange, lemon, honey and ginger beer.

Like The Hill, nearby centers have added trendy eateries, but The Hill’s advantage has been grassy courtyards and shaded walkways which make patio dining pleasant even during Dallas summers. Tables on Wok Star’s front and side patios remain delightfully shaded in the evening, and there are green paths to stroll after dinner.
Wok Star Chinese is at 8041 Walnut Hill Lane, Ste. 854.
