Some ideas are so good, they beg to be repeated. That’s true of the parade organized by parents of last year’s graduating seniors at Lake Highlands High School, when the pandemic closed classes and shut down celebrations. The world is reopening these days, but 2021 graduates and their families say the parade will likely be a permanent addition to end-of-school festivities.
The graduation parade has a backward feel, with participating seniors donning caps and gowns and lining both sides of Church Road in front of the high school. Parents, grandparents and community members are invited to make congratulatory signs, decorate their cars and honk their horns as they process westbound from the “J” parking lot near the tennis courts to the aquatic center parking lot to turn eastbound and travel eastbound to Fieldcrest. The official route is short, but the impact is great – last year’s grads said they definitely felt the love.
The parade will run from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 16. All are invited.
