Roughly 35% of the population has been vaccinated, helping 12 Dallas ZIP codes reach the goal of 80% herd immunity, according to the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation.

The agency known as PCCI changed its forecast for full herd immunity in Dallas, saying it may be reached by late June or mid-July. The agency had predicted in February that herd immunity would arrive in mid-June, based on the prediction that 80% of the population would be vaccinated or have antibodies from contracting the virus.

While vaccinations have been on a roll here, with more than 73% of residents over 65 already vaccinated, the trend is slowing.

The data show that younger people in Dallas still need to get their shots, despite plenty of shots available and little to no wait time at venues such as Fair Park.

Dallas residents ages 18-50 are lagging about 10-15 points behind the national average in vaccinations.

And PCCI urges y’all to hurry it up. “The longer it takes us to contain and crush COVID, the more chances the virus has to create new mutations that could be more transmissible, more deadly and more elusive to previously developed antibodies.”
