Update at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday: The Lake Highlands Public Improvement District will be accepting donated gift cards for families displaced by the fire at their office, 8676 Skillman, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 2. Forest Cove officials have seen a big need for diapers, formula, shoes and clothing, and they’ll accept those items at their office, 9600 Forest Lane. Realtor Robin Norcross is collecting gift cards for families at Forest Lane Academy, and you may text her at 214-662-9133 to arrange a drop off at the Local Resident Realty office at the Lake Highlands Town Center.

More than 100 firefighters battled a five-alarm apartment fire at the Forest Cove Apartments Monday evening, WFAA reported. Just before 5:30 p.m., crews responded to 9600 Forest Lane near Interstate 635, where the two-story complex was ablaze.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and no injuries were reported. One resident was taken to the hospital for a non-related medical emergency.

Firefighters grappled with a partial roof collapse during their effort, and a total of 52 units were destroyed. Staff members at Forest Lane Academy, Forest Meadow Junior High and Lake Highlands High School are all working to assist students and their families displaced by the fire, replacing laptops, school supplies and other needs as best they can.
