Representatives of Austin-based Bonner Carrington, developer of the proposed mixed income housing project at Forest Lane and 75, will host a public meeting via Zoom at 6 p.m. Tuesday. They’ll share details of their plan and answer questions by community members.
“This apartment home community is well designed and will be well built with our long-term ownership in mind,” says CEO and founder Stuart Shaw, “with the same amenities you would expect in the North Dallas/Lake Highlands area such as a fitness center, clubhouse, resort style pool, Wi-Fi business center and modern unit interior amenities. This apartment home community will provide approximately 200 rental apartment units with a good mix, nearly 50/50, of both market rate units and income limited units. Young professionals and other folks, including some families, all with jobs, will live in this complex, just like most other apartment communities in this area of town. However, this apartment home community will be designed and constructed for our planned long-term ownership and highly intentional property management. Working with a local Dallas resident and developer, Bonner Carrington will design, develop, construct, lease, manage, maintain and own this community with a forever holding period in mind. We plan to be your neighbors, participate with you, and become part of your community for the long term.”
Although the plan has drawn some opposition from neighbors, Shaw believes the location is ideal for his firm’s Cypress Creek project, with nearby amenities and accessible services.
“The proposed site is zoned for multi-family apartment use,” says Shaw of the property between Home Depot and 75. “It is not adjacent to any single family neighborhood and yet within walking distance of the DART station so the professional and working families that live there can get to and from the place of employment easily. This is a perfect location for a mixed income apartment community that is sustainable, desirable and will weave community building into the fabric of the area.”
Shaw also takes pride in his team’s commitment to community involvement and their new philanthropy initiative, BonnerCarringtonServes.
“We are a company with an ingrained culture of service and stewardship for our residents and for the residential communities like North Dallas/Lake Highlands in which we develop,” stresses Shaw. “We are different in a very good and meaningful way, as we practice good stewardship including community involvement and sustainability whether for construction practices, management practices or environmental stewardship. To be sustainable, we must be profitable, and only a well maintained and desirable apartment home community can achieve that dual goal.”
