How is everyone doing out there on this historic afternoon?
Armed rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday, just as the House of Representatives and Senate were set to certify the Electoral College.
Here’s what our state and local representatives and city officials are saying.
Sen. Ted Cruz
Violence is always unacceptable. Even when passions run high.
— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 6, 2021
Anyone engaged in violence—especially against law enforcement—should be fully prosecuted.
God bless the Capitol Police and the honorable men & women of law enforcement who show great courage keeping all of us safe.
Those storming the Capitol need to stop NOW.
— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 6, 2021
The Constitution protects peaceful protest, but violence—from Left or Right— is ALWAYS wrong.
And those engaged in violence are hurting the cause they say they support.
Stop stoking division.
— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 6, 2021
Stop spreading hatred.
Stop using malicious rhetoric (such as false & reckless charges of “sedition”).
Stop showing contempt for the half of the country that disagrees with you.
Violence is wrong. We can do better. We are one Nation. #EPluribusUnum https://t.co/Kikh4dW46u
Sen. Angela Paxton
Peaceful protest is part of every American citizen’s birthright. Violence is not.

Rep. Colin Allred
I was evacuated from the House floor and am currently safe.
— Rep. Colin Allred (@RepColinAllred) January 6, 2021
Rep. Lance Gooden
No matter your position on any issue or election, this violence is disgraceful and we should all condemn it.
— Lance Gooden (@Lancegooden) January 6, 2021
PATHETIC!
If you refused to condemn the violent looting across America this summer then I’m not interested in hearing from you today.
— Lance Gooden (@Lancegooden) January 6, 2021
Rep. John Turner
The anarchy that reached the heart of our nation's government today shocks us. But it is a foreseeable result of four years of incendiary rhetoric and dishonorable conduct from a man who was never fit to be president.
— John Turner (@TurnerForTX) January 6, 2021
Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos
Terrorism - the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. This is what these Trump supporters are doing right now at the US Capitol and it’s was fully supported by Raphael Eduardo Cruz! 🤬
— Representative Ana-Maria Ramos (@Ramos4Texas) January 6, 2021
Rep. Lorraine Birabil
There are domestic terrorists invading the United States Capitol; the very institution that carries and protects the power of our democracy. “Enough is enough.” As we saw in Georgia today, nothing and no one can stop us from being represented. https://t.co/0TWYtFhwCh

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson
I am saddened and absolutely disgusted by the rioting at the Capitol in Washington. We are a nation of peaceful processes, deliberation, law, and order. We do not bow to violent mobs. This is un-American and unacceptable, and it must stop. We are better than this.
