On the morning of Nov. 16, Audelia Creek staff discovered damages to the building after what appeared to be a car crash into the school, said RISD Superintendent Jeannie Stone at a Monday night board meeting.

The incident left one classroom “unusable and in need of substantial repairs,” she said. A structural engineer is currently assessing the full extent of damages.

Stone said prompt repair to Audelia Creek Elementary is essential for resuming normal operations of the school.

“The campus is near enrollment capacity and loss of usable space impairs our ability to carry out essential school activities,” she said.

RISD has moved Audelia Creek Elementary students and staff to a safe location.

“The damage to the school presents an imminent threat to the safety of our students and staff,” Stone said.
