Dallas police at a community event last year

This evening’s National Night Out will be like none other in the event’s 37-year history. The pandemic caused most neighborhood groups and homeowner associations to cancel plans for gathering in person with the usual bounce houses and pizza parties.

Tonight/Tuesday, the Dallas Police Department is hosting a National Night Out meet-and-greet from 6-8 p.m. at Flag Pole Hill. In-N-Out will provide free burgers, and there will be other prizes and giveaways. Masks will be required.

National Night Out was created to promote partnerships between law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups and volunteers. When caring neighbors look out for each other, founder Matt Peskin said, communities are safer and families are happier.
