Eric Eager will succeed Justin Bono, who retires from the RISD school board after 6 years

Eric Eager will become Richardson ISD’s newest trustee after opponent Bridgett Hudson withdrew from the race for Place 6. School board members voted Monday to cancel the election after Hudson announced she will discontinue her campaign. Eager succeeds Justin Bono, who retires after serving two terms.

“It has been an honor to fill this seat, whether in person or virtually, for the past six and a half years, and serve alongside each of you and several other trustees that have already gone into retirement,” Bono told his fellow school board members. “While I had the really awesome honor and responsibility of leading this board for several years, I’ve said many times that, Dr. Stone and your senior leadership team and everyone else in the district – there’s no way I could do your jobs. I have great admiration for what you all do each day, and it was an honor for me to fill my role to support all the great work you do for our students each day.”

Earlier this year, Debbie Renteria was sworn in after drawing no opponent in the election, which was delayed from May to November due to the pandemic. Eager will be sworn in at the Sept. 8 board meeting, board president Karen Clardy said.

“I know Mr. Eager is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work,” continued Bono, “and he is going to make a great trustee.”

Eager has served on the RISD Foundation executive board, RISD strategic planning committee and RISD facilities planning committee. He is a graduate of Leadership Richardson.

Eager’s installation will complete the second of three steps to transition the district from an at-large system of electing trustees to a 5-2 model of single member districts. The third election under 5-2 will take place in 2021.
