Arlan Hamilton was featured in our fierce female issue in July. She toured the world with artists like Toni Braxton, Jason Derulo and Kirk Franklin. After working in the music industry, she decided to get into the venture capitalist business. She flew to L.A. and slept on airport couches while she pitched to investors.

Now, she runs Backstage Capital which is dedicated to investing in people of color, women and those who identify as LGBTQ. Hamilton identifies with all three. The company has raised more than $7 million and invested in more than 130 startups.
