Dr. Carlos Chapa was shot at Dave and Buster’s Sunday

One man was shot in the leg and others were sent scrambling for cover Sunday afternoon at the Dave and Buster’s at 75 and Walnut Hill. Dr. Carlos Chapa was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Dallas police said the melee began around 2 p.m. Sunday when two groups of individuals took their verbal altercation outside the arcade. One person pulled out a gun and opened fire, and a bullet apparently ricocheted off the sidewalk and struck Dr. Chapa, just arriving to celebrate birthdays with family members.

“As soon as I turned around I see him take out the gun,” Chapa told WFAA. “He cocked it, and it was a bam-bam-bam. As soon as he did the third one, I’m trying to get out and push my dad [to safety] and I fell to the ground. I couldn’t feel, my leg wasn’t working.”

Witnesses said the two groups were fighting over a stuffed animal won in the arcade, and they described mass confusion inside when gunshots were heard. Rebecca Aguilar, a local reporter having lunch with family near the entrance area, said on Facebook that some parents running for safety left their children behind in shock and were reunited only after strangers took them for cover. The shooter was arrested nearby.
