Kitty Carter with CBS 11’s Brooke Rogers and cameraman

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s jaw-dropping performances at the Super Bowl have had tongues wagging since the lights went down on their silver and gold sequins. All around Lake Highlands, folks have been split on whether they proved women “of a certain age” – Shakira is 43 and J. Lo is 50 – have still got it or should decline to spread it in front of the camera.

CBS 11’s Brooke Rogers visited Kitty Carter Dance Factory on Abrams to chat with dance moms and the legendary Carter, technical coach of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

“I loved it. I thought Shakira and J. Lo knocked it out of the park,” said Lake Highlands resident Christine Scott, who watched the performance with her 15-year-old daughter.

Meredith Yates, another LH neighbor, was less impressed.

“The camera just kept going to a part of the body that just didn’t need to be the focus, so I was a little disappointed,” said Yates, who watched with her 10-year-old daughter.

Carter praised the show – and the women still able to pull it off.

“The energy that it takes to put a performance on like that, it’s like running a canyon in California six times,” said Carter. “You knew it was going to be in Miami, so therefore you knew it was going to be a little bit naughty, which it was.”
