The University Interscholastic League (UIL) released classification cutoffs and enrollment numbers for their 2020-22 realignment Tuesday, and big changes are in store for Lake Highlands athletics.
The Wildcats will remain in 6A along with all other Richardson ISD schools, but 2 of the 8 teams in our district will bump down to 5A.
Class 6A will include 249 schools with enrollment of 2,220 and above, and LHHS has 2,772, Richardson has 2,771, Berkner has 2,547 and Pearce has 2,386 as of the snapshot date. Two Dallas ISD schools – Molina (2,188) and W.T. White (2,098) – dropped below the cutoff and will compete with the majority of DISD in 5A.
The UIL won’t announce new district alignments until Feb. 3, so we won’t know until then if UIL officials will just add a couple of new opponents or reshuffle our deck completely. LHHS will remain with the other RISD schools, of course, but Duncanville and Skyline, which finished first and second in our district, are potentially at play. Stay tuned.
