Santa’s reindeer will attend Light Up the Highlands Dec. 1

Last year’s Light Up the Highlands at the Lake Highlands Town Center felt like such a traditional start to the holiday season, you may not have realized it was the first year for Junior Women’s League members to host the event at their new location. No matter. LHJWL volunteers made the switch from the rec center site like pros, and hundreds of LH families turned up to enjoy the fun.

This year’s event runs from 4-6 p.m. Dec. 1, complete with kids’ crafts, face painters, balloon artists, cookie decorating, a snow luge, Christmas caroling and an appearance by Santa and his live reindeer. Entertainers include Espree and the Highlandettes from LHHS, and food trucks will provide dinner options. A holiday movie will play outdoors after dark.

The real magic happens at 6 p.m. when the Christmas tree lights up, and it will come on every evening from 5:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. until mid-January.

Admission is free to Light Up the Highlands, but, for a $30 donation to LHJWL, your child can enjoy the VIP Experience, rubbing elbows with Santa, having a professional photo taken and enjoying a special craft, snack and story with Teena from The Store. Your family may also donate to the needy by dropping off items for the “Reverse Food Truck,” which collects canned tuna, peanut butter, spaghetti and other non-perishable food items and delivers to the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry.
