Meadowknoll fire inside
An overnight fire heavily damaged a Lake Highlands home, but the family inside were rousted from sleep and saved by their next-door neighbor. The three adults inside the home were unharmed, but the woman next door was treated for smoke inhalation.
“She saved us,” said homeowner Scott Mayers, who was sleeping inside his house in the 9400 block of Meadowknoll Drive near Abrams and Forest. “I never heard a thing until she came knocking.”
Mayers’ girlfriend and grown son also got out safely.
The two-alarm fire began around 4 a.m. Thursday and quickly engulfed the entire home. Firefighters blocked off access to Meadowknoll from Abrams Road in case the fire spread to nearby homes.
In viewing the home, the only items left unscathed seemed to be the red bricks on the front façade and Mayers’ brand-new roof, recently replaced after the June 9 storm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
