Lake Highlands’ annual backpack food drive, called Packs4LH, started thanks to a partnership between 100 Women of Lake Highlands, Exchange Club of Lake Highlands and Knights of Columbus- Dallas Council 799.

Many student in Lake Highlands depend on school breakfasts and lunches for the bulk of their nutrition.

“So when they have these week-long breaks, like Thanksgiving or Christmas, they’re not getting that,” says Mark Gray, coordinator for Exchange Club of Lake Highlands.

This year the organization is working with Forest Lane Academy, where 91% of students receive free or reduced lunch and approximately 663 students live in poverty.

“The biggest goal is to cover everyone at that school,” Gray says. “Any packs that we go over, we try and do spill over schools like Aikin and Skyview.”

This year their goal is 800 packs, priced at $45 each which people donate can donate here.

In previous years, the 100 Women of Lake Highlands have provided 2,311 Thanksgiving dinners to Thurgood Marshall Elementary, Skyview Elementary, and Aikin Elementary.
