Desmond Roland at McKinley Elementary

It’s been a while since Desmond Roland, 2011 Lake Highlands High graduate and star of the football teams at LHHS and Oklahoma State, made headlines for his amazing catches and graceful runs. D-Ro, as his fellow Wildcats called him, had a stint with the Dallas Marshals in the Champions Indoor Football (CIF) league, but the team ceased operations in 2018, and Roland has been team-less for a while.

Bring on the Oklahoma Flying Aces.

Roland signed with the Aces, also a CIF team, in March, and the Enid-based club plays the Texas Revolution May 17th at Frisco’s Ford Center at The Star.

“I am officially playing the sport I love again. I am so happy I cannot explain,” Roland posted on Facebook March 24th. “We will put the world on notice, our team is young and so skilled, it will be a show.”

The Aces have two other former Oklahoma State players and a surprise for longtime D-Ro fans.

“Guess what, I will not be at running back. I will be taking it way back to my defensive days,” wrote Roland. “Get your popcorn ready.”

Roland has already made himself a part of the Enid community by visiting with schoolchildren at McKinley Elementary.

“It was as fun as I remembered,” wrote Roland. “I just want to inspire and change the world for the better.”
