Hang on to your leotards, tumblers. ASI Gymnastics in Lake Highlands is closing its doors around May 15th and reopening as ASI-Lakewood about June 1st. The popular after-school program which hosts birthday parties and teaches boys and girls beginning at 18 months has been at the corner of Forest Lane and Greenville Avenue almost 20 years.

ASI owner and CEO David Holley told Dallas Morning News writer Maria Halkias, a Lake Highlands resident, the new Lakewood gym will take 20,000 square feet, or about one-third, of the vacant Minyard Sun Fresh Market at Mockingbird Lane and Abrams.

“About 85 percent of our customers say the Lakewood location is a closer drive for them or more convenient,” Holley told Halkias. “Abrams Road is a major thoroughfare for Lake Highlands all the way through Lakewood and East Dallas.”

ASI will spend $1 million to renovate the interior and purchase new equipment, Holley said. Holley founded ASI in 1991 with his wife, Debi. The gym has 9 other locations all over the metroplex and is family owned.
