Two more candidates threw their names in the hat right before Friday’s filing deadline for the Dallas City Council’s District 9 seat.

Tamara “Tami” Brown and Jacinto Valdespino, both of Lakewood, will run against four others for the seat vacated by Councilman Mark Clayton. Clayton said in January he will not seek re-election so he can spend more time with his family.

Valdespino is a teacher at the Dallas Independent School District’s Hector Garcia Middle School and a former U.S. Marine, according to his Facebook profile. He officially announced his candidacy Monday.

“I believe the only way to continue making Dallas a great city is by working to build each other up,” he wrote in a post. “Stop trying to tear each other down, and let’s get some work done.”

Brown submitted her paperwork Thursday. No additional information could be found.

The two will face Dallas County Commissioner executive assistant Erin Moore, community activist Sarah Lamb, the former chief of staff for Mayor Mike Rawlings Paula Blackmon and former Dallas Park and Recreation Board member Paul Sims in the May 4 election.
