Sims said in a Facebook post the timing wasn’t right for his family. The White Rock area resident said he plans to remain active in the community and continue advocating for parks, the protection of White Rock Lake and safe neighborhoods, according to the post.

Sims had hoped to replace outgoing Councilman Mark Clayton. Clayton said in January he would not seek re-election so he could spend more time with his family.

The remaining candidates for the District 9 seat are Paula Blackmon, Tamara Brown, Sarah Lamb, Erin Moore and Jacinto P. Valdespino.
