Price served as pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist Church for 42 years, growing the church from 20 members to more than 2,500 and supervising a team of more than 25 ministers. He moved the church from its original location on Coit Road to its current facility near the Lake Highlands YMCA, and implemented a day care, credit union, food bank and youth center.

While leading the church, Price also spent 28 years working for Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Banking Corporation, eventually rising to vice president.

Price was a founding member of Hamilton Park, the historic black neighborhood established in the 1950s just north of the post office. There, he and wife, Delores, raised their children Robert Price, Jr., Patricia Hicks and Lisa Rausaw among some of Dallas’ most accomplished civic and professional leaders.

Price received many honors, including the Dallas Morning News’ Living Legend Award, the Dallas Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance’s Human Relations Award and the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce’s Thomas L. Houston Community Service Award.

The postal facility at 8135 Forest Lane functioned for a while as a USPS service center, but was named for Price in 2007 and now serves the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
