Even if basketball isn’t your game, you’ll likely enjoy a trip to the Lake Highlands High gym tonight/Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking on powerhouse Pearce and their Gonzaga-bound forward, Drew Timme, the Texas-top-5 player recruited by the nation’s top schools. If his last name sounds familiar, you may know Megan, his mom. She’s a former Merriman Park Elementary assistant principal.

The Cats haven’t made the playoffs since 2012, but they’re on the verge of earning a postseason berth this year.  With an overall record of 19-11, they currently sit at third in district with a 7-4 district record. They’ll play at Molina Friday night and face Richardson High at home next Tuesday for Senior Night.

Joe Duffield, LHHS head coach since 2016, recruited Zach Haug to coach the JV and their chemistry is apparent. Duffield coached Haug as a player at Vista Ridge High School in central Texas, and during Duffield’s time there the school won their first-ever district championship and two tournament titles. Duffield was named Coach of the Year in 2016.

The JV plays at 6 p.m. and the varsity plays at 7:30. The team asks that you wear all white to White Out Pearce tonight/Tuesday.
