A routine traffic stop about 3 p.m. in Garland Tuesday led to a police chase through three cities, with the perpetrator finally arrested an hour later in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at Abrams and Northwest Highway.

Garland cops tried to pull over Stoffon Lorains Cooper, 47, for going 40 mph in a school zone, but he fled and the chase was on. At one point, he stopped his blue minivan, got out and yelled at the pursuing officer that he was God.

Police found that Cooper was wanted for multiple traffic warrants, and they were joined by Dallas police and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

You can watch NBCDFW’s coverage here, which includes Cooper cutting through gas station parking lots and weaving through a car wash. When police finally took him down at 7-Eleven, they found a machete strapped to his side.

Cooper was taken to Garland by Dallas police, who booked him in the city jail.
