Let’s be honest with ourselves: Shopping for the holidays isn’t always fun. To make your lives easier, we’ve compiled a few local gift ideas that you won’t have to travel to Narnia to find.
1.) “El Arroyo’s Big Book of Signs Volume Two”
Before you roll your eyes and say, “But El Arroyo is in Austin,” let us mention that the Tex-Mex restaurant’s owner, Ellis Winstanley, is a Lake Highlands native. After buying the Austin establishment, he became one of the masterminds behind its quirky marquee. “El Arroyo’s Big Book of Signs Volume Two” features gems like “The beach gonna get whatever body I give it” and “List of People I Like. 1. Dogs.”
2.) A hardware shop that sells chicks seems like an odd place to find Christmas gifts, but the Dallas Morning News recently complimented Rooster Home and Hardware for its “coolest little collection of local artisan products.” Check out local offerings such as White Rock Coffee, T-Rex Pickles and Kimber’s Cookies for the foodies in your family.
3.) Lake Highlands’ Kristy Crawford and her mom, Sarah, launched Two Funny Girls almost a decade ago, and the business still monograms whatever your heart desires. Backpacks, pillows, clothing, plates, hats — the options for personalized holiday gifts are (nearly) endless.
