Kids U

Kids-U is an afterschool program embedded in several Dallas apartment communities where families and working parents tend to cluster. They’ll open their 14th site – their 7th in Lake Highlands – today/Wednesday afternoon at the Legends of Lake Highlands apartments near Northwest Highway and E. Lake Highlands Drive.

The newest Kids-U location is funded by 100 Women of Lake Highlands, a group dedicated to improving our community using the power of pooled resources. Since 2016, they’ve aided Pamper Lake Highlands, the Gaston Christian Center, Healing Hands Ministries and other charities and local schools.

Kids-U was co-founded in 2002 by Lake Highlands resident Diana Baker and has grown now to serve more than 400 students. They provide after-school care, tutoring, summer camps and community dinners, and they foster partnerships with other agencies to ensure their families receive GED, ESL, financial literacy and other classes.

The Lake Highlands Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 4 p.m. ribbon-cutting today/Wednesday for Kids-U and all are welcome. Kids-U at Legends is at 11201 E. Lake Highlands Drive.
