When the Lady Wildcat varsity volleyball team heads to Skyline High tonight for the final match of regular season, the talented squad has plenty of reasons to be planning for playoffs. The girls, already secure in their hold on the district championship, say they’re focused on just one goal – finishing the season with a perfect 14-0 record.

And talented they are.

Sophia Miller has committed to play at Brown University; Micah Stiggers is the daughter of Marcus Stiggers, legendary Wishbone quarterback of the 1996 Wildcats and wide receiver for the University of Colorado; Pamela Patterson is the granddaughter of the late Tony Liscio, offensive lineman for Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks Dandy Don Meredith and Roger Staubach; and Logan Gould is the daughter of the late Clay Gould, namesake of UTA’s baseball stadium and former coach and player there.

Did I mention the Wildcat junior varsity and freshman teams are undefeated, too?

The district title comes on the 10-year anniversary of Lake Highlands High winning their way to an appearance at the UIL state final four in 2008. It was a magical year for Wildcat sports. Yeah, that was the time Tony Romo and Will Smith showed up at the volleyball and football playoff pep rally to cheer the kids on.

You can catch the match tonight at Skyline at 6:30. Playoffs begin next week, and LHHS (8-6A) will face the fourth-ranked opponent from 7-6A, likely a team with an even record. Go Cats!
