Packs4LH 2017

Last year’s inaugural Packs4LH fundraiser was brilliant in its simplicity: send every Skyview Elementary student home for Thanksgiving break with a bag packed full of healthy, non-perishable food to share with his or her family. The campaign, organized by 100 Women of Lake Highlands, the Exchange Club and Knights of Columbus, raised more than $40,000 and provided so many bags of food to Skyview families that extras were sent to kids at nearby Aikin.

This year, Aikin children will be the focus, and their need is urgent.

Aikin, which serves more than 750 students in pre-K through sixth grade, has approximately 650 kids living at or below the poverty level. Languages from all over the world are spoken in Aikin households, and 85 percent qualify for free or reduced lunch.

If you’d like to help, dine out on Tuesday, Oct. 16 any time of day, and these restaurants will kick back a percentage to the cause: Cedar and Vine, Resident Taqueria, Taco Diner Lake Highlands, Shady’s Burger and Brewhaha, Tony’s Pizza and Pasta, Picasso’s or Mi Cocina.
